The University's environmental scientist and newest Professorial Fellow, Professor Tim Flannery tells Bloomberg's Angie Lau that the impact of ongoing extreme weather events has brought to a head the need for urgent global action on climate change.

Professor Flannery says the challenge is how to achieve the globally agreed target of keeping temperatures rising below 2 degrees, as 80% of the world's fossil fuels have to remain in the ground. He says there is an urgent need for action in Australia, but the difficulty is Australia's deep involvement with the fossil fuel industry.
