The Review Committee led by an independent chair, Dr Ziggy Switkowski, and including staff, students and community members has considered more than 300 submissions and representations.
Dr Switkowski presented the report to Vice-Chancellor Professor Glyn Davis and the Faculty of the VCA and Music (VCAM) Dean, Professor Sharman Pretty, at today’s final meeting of the Review Committee.
The report will be considered by the University before any decision is made on the future of VCAM.
However Professor Davis said the University remained committed to offering a world-class arts curriculum.
"This has been important work for the University and the Faculty but also for quality arts education," Professor Davis said. "This Report offers findings which will help inform the University and the Faculty in defining the future direction of the Faculty to serve the needs of its stakeholders."
Any recommendations affecting the former VCA will be presented to the VCA Integration Committee, as required, prior to submission to the University of Melbourne Council.
"The University remains committed to supporting VCAM’s fine work in training and educating current and future generations of Australian visual and performing artists," he said.
Professor Davis and Professor Pretty thanked Dr Switkowski and the Review Committee for their work over the past few months on the consultation process and in shaping the Report on the future of the VCA and Music at the University.
