The world record attempt is being organised by Robogals’, a group founded at The University of Melbourne which encourages school aged girls to study science, engineering and technology at University level. They do this by training university students in LEGO robotics and then having the university students inspire, teach and coach young girls in LEGO robotics, culminating with them entering into First LEGO League competitions.
The robot dancing attempt has been organised to celebrate the group’s expansion into universities across the nation.
The current Guinness World Record for Robot Dancing is held by the University of Kent, in the United Kingdom with 276 participants. Robogals founder, Marita Cheng says the group hopes 1000 dancers will be involved in the attempt at the University of Melbourne.
