Improving health and well-being, supported by evidence-based research is a key priority for the University of Melbourne.  In the latest funding round of $114.2 million announced today by The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), the University of Melbourne has been recognised for innovative research projects that cover the spectrum of health issues from oncology, mental health and improving function after a stroke through the use of new technologies.

University of Melbourne researchers have been awarded more than $1.4 million to conduct the first ever randomised clinical trial of an Australian snake antivenom. The study will compare the current CSL taipan antivenom with a new antivenom made in Costa Rica and will take place in Port Moresby General Hospital, Papua New Guinea.

Immune boosting research tops NHMRC grants

The University of Melbourne has been awarded more than $26 million from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to fund two high-level research programs. These programs will focus on understanding immune system responses to viruses and other infections, and further our understanding of how white blood cells detect and destroy disease.
