A critical discovery about how bacteria feed on an unusual sugar molecule found in leafy green vegetables could hold the key to explaining how ‘good’ bacteria protect our gut and promote health.

Professor Frank Caruso from Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, University of Melbourne has won the 2014 Victoria Prizes for Science and Innovation (Physical Sciences).

The 2012 Royal Society of Victoria Medal for Excellence in Scientific Research in the Physical Sciences has been awarded to Professor Frank Caruso, The University of Melbourne, in recognition of his outstanding work in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
