The University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney have shared the spoils at this year’s Australian Boat Race, with Melbourne’s women’s and Sydney’s men’s teams proving the victors on Sunday morning.
The women’s eight crew from the University of Melbourne have claimed their fifth consecutive Australian Boat Race title, comprehensively out-rowing the University of Sydney on Sydney Harbour this morning.
An Olympic gold medalist and a two-time world champion headline the University’s squad for the Australian Boat Race, an annual rowing competition against the University of Sydney in the style of the famous Oxford v Cambridge races in England.
After numerous years of planning, renovation and development, the University's new sports pavilion on the main oval was officially opened on the eve of the VAFA football finals by the Hon Alex Chernov AO, Governor of Victoria.
